Airline Flex Policies for Cancellations
When canceling a flight, it is helpful to know the following:
- If a traveler cancels a flight within 24 hours of making the reservation, it can be canceled penalty-free. United gives us 48 hours to cancel penalty-free.
- All travel agencies must adhere to the cancellation policies for each airline when a traveler wishes to cancel a flight.
- When shopping for a flight, be aware of the policies for each flight. Is it changeable but not refundable? Is it neither changeable or refundable or is it both? Often these policies also affect the price of a flight. A flight with more restrictions will be less expensive than a flight with fewer restrictions.
- If a flight has to be canceled, be sure to review the policies for that flight. Most airlines will issue a credit for a canceled flight. If the flight is refundable, the traveler will have to request the refund from the agency where the traveler purchased the ticket, otherwise a credit will be issued.
The airlines may have flex policies published on their websites for review. A traveler can also call the airline directly or ask an Egencia or T100 agent.
